How to soundproof a car’s trunk and spare wheel? Step-by-step instructions
1. We remove the plastics and spare wheel until we get to the sheet metal, we use the appropriate kit for removing plastics in the car.
2. We thoroughly clean the surface to be soundproofed.
3. We degrease the surfaces to be soundproofed with extraction gasoline.
4. We use ABM Professional butyl mat with a thickness of 2.0 mm to soundproof the areas where there is sheet metal. For a better effect, we recommend ABM Xtreme with a thickness of 2.5 mm. On the wheel arches, we use ABM Professional with a thickness of 4.0 mm for better soundproofing.
We remember to cut holes for bolts and clips! We skip any beams and the place to hold the spare wheel!
5. We roll out the butyl mat with a suitable mounting roller to get rid of any unnecessary bits of air.
If we feel there is a bit of air left in some place, we remove it by pressing it to the nearest outlet/edge.
6. We then degrease it and apply a layer of rubber foam with a preferred thickness of 10 mm. If there is room to install a thicker foam, we prefer to do it for better effect.

7. After completing the rubber foam lining, we deal with the installation of components.
