How to soundproof a sink?

Soundproof a noisy stainless steel kitchen sink using automotive materials. Thin metal causes annoying sounds from running water or dishes. Apply self-adhesive butyl mats and insulating rubber foam to the exterior bottom. This method effectively dampens unwanted vibrations and noise. Discover a quieter kitchen experience now.

Table of contents

Stainless steel kitchen sinks are very popular due to their low cost and low maintenance.

But the cheaper ones can be very noisy. Therefore, there is a need to soundproof this kitchen sink.

Cheap stainless steel kitchen sinks are made of a very thin material, which makes them noisy when you turn on the tap or wash dishes in them.

Noise can be really annoying when watching your favorite TV show. In this article you will learn how to soundproof a kitchen sink.

We will use soundproofing butyl mats and insulating rubber foam for better soundproofing, both used in cars.

In most cases, this will be enough to dampen the sound of the kitchen sink.

Sound insulation materials

  • Self-adhesive soundproofing butyl mat ABM Xtreme 1.8 or 2.0 mm
  • ABM insulating rubber foam 10 mm

Accessories

  • Gloves
  • ABM metal pressure mounting roller
  • Upholstery knife
  • Rolled measure
  • Extraction naphtha

How to soundproof a sink? Step by step instructions:

Step 1

We treat the lower surface of the sink from the outside with extraction gasoline. We measure the total area of the sink bottom that we will soundproof

Step 2

We prepare the butyl mat to the required size, which was measured in step 1

Step 3

Remove the protective foil and stick it to the outside of the sink

Step 4

Using the assembly roller, we run over the entire surface of the mat so that the adhesive surface adheres to the sink as best as possible.

Step 5

We treat the surface of the glued butyl mat with extraction gasoline

Step 6

We prepare the rubber foam to the required size, which was measured in step 1

Step 7

Remove the protective foil from the rubber foam and stick it on the butyl mat on the outside of the sink.
